Buller Bluewater Classic For one full month, Westport becomes the base for a serious big game fishing competition, with marlin, swordfish and tuna all in play. Last summer proved what many already suspected – the fishing out of Westport went off, with big fish being caught further south than usual, seasoned fishing legends visiting, filming… and already planning to come back.
Rather than letting that moment pass, we’re building on it.
How it works:
The festival kicks off with the much-loved Buller Bay Fishing Competition on the first weekend – keeping that strong local tradition alive – and wraps up at the end of February with a big prizegiving – a proper celebration of fishing and community!
This is the inaugural year of what we hope becomes a legacy event – one that grows year on year, brings people to town, backs local businesses, and puts Westport firmly on the map as an emerging bluewater hotspot.
